Payne Velasco is pleased to share that Jaerey Velasco, Partner and Head of Family and Matrimonial Law, recently attended and spoke at the IAFL Asia Pacific Chapter Symposium on “Burning Issues and Trends in International Family Law”, held in Kuala Lumpur on 19 May 2026.
As a newly inducted Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL), Jaerey was honoured to be invited to participate as a panelist in the symposium’s final session, “What is HOT in Jurisdiction & Forum Issues in Cross-Border Disputes?”. The session brought together leading international practitioners to explore the increasingly complex jurisdictional issues arising in cross-border family law matters.
The panel was moderated by James Stewart (England and Wales) and Honey Tan (Malaysia), and featured distinguished panelists including Jacky Campbell (Australia), Yet Ngo Foo (Malaysia), Anil Malhotra (India), and Stacy Heard (USA). The discussion focused on emerging trends and practical challenges in navigating jurisdictional disputes across multiple legal systems.
The symposium provided a valuable forum for the exchange of insights among family law specialists from across jurisdictions. Notably, the programme also featured contributions from leading figures in the field, including Rajashree Suppiah, President of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
The event was jointly organised by the IAFL Asia Pacific Chapter and the Malaysian Bar, and formed part of ongoing efforts to foster international collaboration on key issues in family law.
